Funding is the biggest barrier.
Funding is the single biggest barrier for emerging filmmakers. Talented writers and directors across the UK have stories worth telling, but not the resources to get them to screen.
I've been on sets where people pour everything into a project, their time, their energy and their savings, and still can't get their own story made. FILMD Grants exist to change that.
Every round, we put £1,000 directly into the hands of one member to get their project off the ground. The criteria are simple: stay on FILMD Plus, hire your cast and crew through FILMD, and premiere the finished film in our Screening Room. You write the script; we help fund it.
Five rounds in, five films funded, and we're just getting started. Give people the tools, the community and a bit of funding, and they make remarkable things. I've seen it first-hand.
This isn't charity. It's belief that the next great short film could come from anyone, anywhere in the UK, not just the people with the right connections or the right postcode.
